HISTORY
We didn't just spring up overnight - there is no here today, gone tomorrow! We have been in Ipswich for well over 40 years! It all started back in the 70s with just half a dozen newly divorced folk getting together with nowhere to go! They decided to do something about it and arranged a few meetings in the local pub. This grew into occasional meal nights out and as more people started turning up, the dances were then created. This culminated in the birth of the Ipswich Divorced and Separated Club - a non profit making Club. At the beginning it was village halls but demand continued to grew so much bigger halls were required to cope with the numbers. At one stage we had over 800 members and were having to turn people away on Saturday nights!
The Club was run by a dedicated voluntarily band of Committee members who gave up their time and put lots of effort into helping others regain their confidence with the opportunity to regain some sort of social life and feel better about their future. This still applies today.
So ..where are we now ? Circumstances change - life moves on and in today's World we decided to throw our doors open to anybody who needs us, regardless of their marital status. We offer our members a safe and good fun Saturday night out dancing to old and new tracks with some of the best discos in town. Also friendship for people who may have lost a much loved partner and are struggling. Anybody coping with a divorce who now finds their friendship circle has decreased and in addition those who want to join a great band of people (bit like Robin Hood really but without the bow and arrows!) who want to improve their social life.
Now you have read what we are about and know a bit about us we really hope we will have the pleasure of your company.
Ring our New Member's Secretary (MARION) on 07890 954019 for a friendly informal chat. Alternatively email us and leave a message on [email protected] and we will get back to you.
